BIOMEHEALTH PROJECT

Developing innovative solutions for crop health to ensure food safety and security amidst the challenges posed by climate change and emerging diseases is achievable only through translational research and knowledge transfer in precision agriculture technologies. BiomeHealth seeks to strengthen collaboration between two leading EU institutions, WUR and UNIBO, and REQUIMTE/UP, focusing on pathogen detection and novel control tools based on plant microbiomes.

This partnership aims to enhance REQUIMTE/UP's capacity by training its staff, researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD students in these research and innovation fields, as well as in exploiting outcomes for academic, industrial, policymaking, and societal applications.

The three partners possess extensive expertise in plant health, pathogen detection and control, and metadata analysis, including deep learning (e.g., UNIBO). Together, they will contribute to advancing the state of the art in these areas. Objectives O3 to O6 centre on equipping the widening partner, REQUIMTE/UP, to become a centre of excellence in research and innovation related to pathogen detection and plant health. Below is an outline of the strategies to achieve these objectives, case studies, and key performance indicators to assess their attainment.
